Hang It Up, and the Front Door Is Done

It comes out of the box finished: a wire basket with a coco liner, full of artificial pine, frosted tips, pine cones and clusters of red berries, with a string of warm white LEDs already woven through the greenery. Hook the chain onto a bracket, a porch beam or a sturdy hook by the door, switch it on, and the entrance looks like December.

Lit From the Inside

Because the lights sit among the branches rather than on top of them, the glow comes through the needles and catches the berries and the frosted cones. From the street it reads as one warm lantern of greenery, not a string of bulbs wrapped round a wreath.

Rain, Frost and Wind: It Stays Out

The greenery is artificial, so it does not drop needles, dry out or need watering. The lights run from a small battery box with a timer: set it once and it comes on at the same time every evening for six hours and switches itself off. There is no cable to run through the door and nothing to plug in outside.

Pack It Flat, Hang It Again Next Year

In January, lift it off the hook, take the batteries out and store it in the box it came in. It takes up less room than a tree and comes out looking the same next winter. One basket dresses a front door; a pair, one each side of the porch or the garage, frames the whole house.
